What’s Going On May 10-17: Mom’s Day Dinner, Retirement Seminars, Concerts and More

Here are a few of the events happening this coming week in South County. Check our Calendar of Events for a more complete listing.  Saturday, May 10

  • 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day at Southern Recycling Center located at 5400 Nutwell Sudley Road, Deale. Check out the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works site for information on items that are accepted.
  • 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Wimsey Cove Framing and Art presents their annual Make it, Mat it, Give it! event. Make a picture and have it matted and ready for Mother’s Day. Half of the proceeds will be donated to The Creative and Performing Arts of South County. Whimsey Cove is located at 3141 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater.
  • 1 p.m. Music at Historic London Town and Gardens. Historic London Town and Gardens, in partnership with the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra, is offering a Music in May concert series. On select Saturdays in May, the Londontowne Symphony will provide a 1 p.m. concert at Historic London Town and Gardens. Each concert will last 45-60 minutes. Depending on the weather and the day, the performance will either be in the woodland and ornamental gardens or in the c1760 tavern (William Brown House). Seating is limited in the William Brown House. For performances in the gardens, attendees may bring their own chairs. The May 10 concert features Quartet in the Gardens. Admission is free for members; $10 – General Public; $9 – Seniors (62+); $5 – Youth (7-18); Free – Children (6 and younger).

    Londontown

    Historic London Town and Gardens, in partnership with the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra, is offering a Music in May concert on Saturday, May 10.

  • 3 – 7 p.m. Mother’s Day Dinner at the Mayo United Methodist Church, located at 1005 Old Turkey Point Road, Edgewater.
  • 7 p.m. Sons of the Severn Spring Concert.  Sons of the Severn Spring Concert with special guest South River High Choral Ensembles the Treble Clefs and Fortissimettes. In addition to the main chorus and our quartets, two talented select women’s ensembles from South River High School will be featured. Admission is free. The event is begin held at Trinity UMC ,1300 West Street, Annapolis.
  • 7 p.m. Davidsonville Athletic Association Bull Roast Fiesta. The Davidsonville Athletic Association (DAA) is hosting a Bull Roast Fiesta on May 10.  Ticket cost is $40 which covers “the works” from Plazuealas in Edgewater and unlimited beer and wine, and a DJ playing tunes all night. There will be specialty drinks available at additional cost.  There will also be a silent auction and a 50/50 raffle.  Proceeds benefit DAA’s youth athletic program. The event is being held in the social hall at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville.

  • 7 p.m. Sources of Retirement Income Free Seminar by Morgan Stanley. Held at the Mayo United Methodist Church at 1005 Old Turkey Point Road, Edgewater.

Saturday, May 17

  • 7 p.m. Body Wellness Salon & Spa 10 Year Anniversary and the Boutique at Body Wellness’ One Year Anniversary Celebration. “Models and Adoptables” fashion show to benefit the Mid Atlantic Bully Buddies. Come see new summer looks and pitties parade down the runway. Early bird tickets are $15 and may be purchased at www.boutique.com. Day-off admission is $20. Event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and is being held in the old Parkemoor space at 127 Mitchells Chance Road in Edgewater. Food and refreshments by the All American Steakhouse, Fuji Steakhouse and Stan and Joe’s Saloon.
