South River High School boys lacrosse team is slated to play Wooten High School (West division) for the 4A/3A state championship semi-final game tonight. The game will be played at Northeast High School, starting at 8 p.m. (please watch for weather delays or game postponements).

The winner of that game will play either Dulaney High (South division champ) or Howard (North division). That semi-final is on Saturday.

The state championship games will be at UMBC on May 20-21.

The Seahawks were seeded number one going into the tournament. Here’s how the tournament played out:

  • First round: Bye
  • Second round: South River over Chesapeake, 14 to 3
  • Third round: South River over Arundel, 8-5
  • Fourth round: South River over Leonardtown, 16-0

The boys have had a strong season, going 12-2 in regular season play, running up huge leads in some of their county matches. Early in the season, they fell 6-7 to Arundel, but easily got past the Wildcats in the playoff round of divisionals.

The South River Boys have gone to the state championship match every year since 2011. That year they fell to Linganore, 13-2. In 2012, the boys topped Westminster, 10-8. Last year’s game was another Westminster rematch where the Seahawks fell, 10-13.

Southern fell to Fallston on Wednesday. The Bulldogs are out of playoff contention. As a 7th seed going in to playoffs, the ‘Dawgs did very well, topping Bluford Drew Jemison Academy 15-3, Northwestern 15-0, and Carver Vo-Tech, 19-1.

The Southern girls lacrosse team got past Patterson Mill, 17-8 in the third round of the playoffs, but lost to Fallston by seven points in the regional round on Wednesday.

In baseball, the Southern boys are the only ones still in the hunt for a regional playoff in Division 2A. They’ll meet Calvert on Saturday at Calvert High School in Prince Frederick. Seeded second going in, the boys met Frederick Douglass and ran up the score, 12-2. If you have photos of the game, please send them to
