Homestead Gardens’ Crapemyrtle Festival Begins July 18

Homestead Gardens’ annual Crapemyrtle Festival is scheduled for this Friday, July 18 through Monday, July 21. The event features fun activities for the entire family including seminars, workshops, games and live music.

This year, Homestead Gardens will feature over 40 Crapemyrtle varieties in all colors, shapes and sizes.  Crapemyrtles were brought to the U.S. from China and Korea in the late 1700s. There are about 50 cultivars, or varieties of the plant, ranging from 100 feet trees to 1 foot tall dwarf shrubs. They bloom in the summer into the fall. The blossoms look like crinkled-up crepe paper and the hues run from bright reds to vivid pinks and purples and even into the blue spectrum.

Here’s a look at the line-up of activities. Don’t forget to grab your Myrtle Money. It’s redeemable for special savings on thousands of items throughout the store.Crapemyrtle-Festival-2014-events-banner
