HOT SHOTS: DAA Girls U11 Soccer Team Scores Championship at LTSC Challenge Cup

This past weekend, the Davidsonville Athletic Association’s (DAA) Girls U11 Storm team kicked off their season at the LTSC Challenge Cup in Lutherville, MD by winning both their division and the Championship game  in a shootout.

The newly formed team coached by Dave Ballard includes Delaney Bakal, Anna Ballard, Madison Bove, Alyssa Cowens, Sophia Fionda, Alaina Goodwin, Alex Hagen, Emma Larsen, Adrianna Parker, Natallie Pratta, Riley Reinhart, Caitlyn Rogers, Aislinn Sax and Hannah Swaniger.

The Championship round found the team tied at 1-1 at the end of regular time, which was followed up by two sudden death overtimes, finalized by what would determine the game, a penalty kick shootout, said Ballard.

But they weren’t done yet. Ballard said that after five kicks by each team, the score was still tied, so they began to shoot 1 for 1.  On the 7th shot, Adrianna Parker made an amazing save to keep their hopes alive.  This was followed by the game winning kick shot by Sophia Fionda.

Here are photos from the game:

“You never know what to expect with a new team.  I was amazed with their immediate sense of unity, character and grit,” said Ballard.  “They never gave up and as the championship game wore on, they remained calm and focused. Everyone contributed to this victory and it’s a wonderful way for a new team to start their season.  I’m extremely proud of the girls.”

The DAA Girls U11 Storm team will compete in the Washington Area Girls Soccer League this season. Congratulations on a great win and good luck this season!
