* Art in the Garden Capt AveryArt in the Garden Capt Avery

Time: 12:00 PM

Art in the Garden July 13th at the Captain Avery Museum Toward the end of Shady Side Road and around the bend along East West Shady Side Road is a secret garden you may not have heard about. The garden is located at the Captain Avery Museum, and it is a lovely blend of three Rain Gardens with a connecting bio-swale and six additional conservation gardens. They not only provide a beautiful backdrop for the Museum, together they function to treat 5 acres of stormwater runoff, as well as provide habitat for local animals using native shrubs and perennials. It is a wonderful place to not only relax, but to get ideas for your own garden at home. On July 13th bring the entire family and get in touch with your creative side by painting a canvas or flowerpot with an image from our rain scape or our waterfront view along the West River. The event includes canvas or flowerpot, paint and brush, with homemade sugar cookies and lemonade served to you while you paint (sponsored by Christopher's Fine Foods). A few painters from the Muddy Creek Artist's Guild will be on hand to join the fun. The cost is per person. The deadline for reservations is July 6. After the program, at no additional charge, guests can tour the exhibit at the Museum, “Life on the Water: Seasons of the West River Watermen.” Also available are Kid’s Discovery Kits to explore the garden and the resident osprey nest with magnifying glasses, binoculars, and plant and animal education cards. Registration forms for the June 22 Sailboat Derby and Strawberry Shortcake, the July 13 Art in the Garden, and the August 3 Sundae Sunday are available on line at www.captainaverymuseum.org. Those interested may also register by calling the Museum Office at 410-867-4486 or pick up a form on Sundays between 1 and 4 p.m. when the Museum is open.
